Problem Overview

The Humane Society works tirelessly to care for animals and support pet owners and needed a website that was easy to manage and reflected its brand identity cohesively and consistently across the new website. Additionally, the organization wanted its website to be a seamless connection point for people searching for pets or pet care support.

Clean, Colorful and Happy Design

Our design team was delighted at the opportunity to play with the Humane Society’s five primary brand colors to bring forward the feelings of pet rescue and care. An array of colors set the stage for style tile options for the Humane Society to choose from. The final result? An elevated design that leverages white space and strategically infuses color usage with pops of color in key areas of the website design.

Prioritizing Access, Amplifying Mission

The Humane Society offers community services including its Pet Food Pantry, low-cost spay and neuter programs and medical care for ill and injured shelter pets. A major goal of the website redesign was to create a digital experience that was responsive and easy for users to find information, regardless of device or ability. When exploring colors for the website, our design team started with ensuring color combinations would pass ADA requirements. Our team also reorganized content, pulling information out of PDFs and organizing pages to make it easier to find resources.

Making Happy Happen

Beyond showcasing images of cute dogs, cats and critters, SiteCrafting wanted to find ways to provide delight for users visiting the website. To encourage engagement we introduced a cat video on the homepage. To encourage support, we created a Give Me a Treat form for the pet pages.

Saving Time, Showcasing Pets

SiteCrafting integrated with Pet Harbor via RSS feed In order to show lost and adoptable pets on the website. We worked closely with the vendor and the Humane Society to verify data points would display on the website. In addition to integrating the feed with accurate information about pets, this update reduces the amount of time it takes for new pet data to display on the website after being updated by a member of the Humane Society team. Now, adoptable animals and lost pets are live on the website in one hour as opposed to the three hours it took on the previous website.

“I really appreciated the time the SiteCrafting team took to work with us on a lot of things. We had a lot of questions and things we needed to add in at the last minute, even during the RFP process and your team was really so accommodating.”
