The only constant is change.
This is a quote attributed to Heraclitus — and it’s just as relevant today. For as many things that have changed over the course of history, so many things about human beings are the same. We follow routines, we tend to resist leaving our comfort zones, we gravitate towards the familiar. We can fall into this rut if we are not diligent.
Instead, there is another way — and this is the way we’ve tried to travel at SiteCrafting for the past 25 years. It is embracing the change and finding our way amongst the thorny, untrod path. It is being comfortable with discomfort. It is in accepting that for us to truly serve ourselves and our partners we need to walk headlong into the uncertainty.
Several things help us to do this. First, our core values and mission statement remind us of who we are and what we stand for. Second, our team, always seeking to serve each other and our clients. Our dedication to each other and commitment to the work always points us in the right direction. Finally, our ability to stay curious, to not be satisfied with the knowledge we have, but to always be learning and applying that knowledge to our solutions.
In fact, the one thing we could count on in the early years of SiteCrafting, was uncertainty. This has not let up, we just have different uncertainties. In the early days, we didn’t know if all the servers were going to stay on all night, or if we might be summoned at 8pm only to work the entire night, interrupted only by your phone’s alarm that was meant to wake you for today’s work. Somedays you might just get a call that asks for an unreasonable product, in an insane timeline, with a no-failure option and decide, “hey, someone is going to do this, it may as well be us.”
During our early years, people were sure web development was going to be usurped by software like Dreamweaver or FrontPage. Instead, people needed us to help them understand these tools and to extend them to meet their organizational needs. More recently, WordPress has not been our undoing, but instead provided opportunities for us to fill the gaps and extend the toolset in ways beyond out-of-the-box functionality. The same will be true for emerging technologies like AI and machine learning. These are simply tools and our role is to understand those tools and leverage them for solutions for our clients.
We at SiteCrafting are proud to have served our clients and community for these past 25 years. From learning to code the night before what was due the next day, to adding capabilities within our team to better serve our clients, we’ve always based our success on the success of our partners and clients. We measure our worth by the referrals we’ve received from those who valued our contribution. In fact, we want to provide so much value that we would be sorely missed if we were not here. We are grateful for the people who have joined our team and pushed us forward. We would not be here today without our fabulous staff and our dedicated clients.
Thank you.
