Long before WordPress, Facebook or ChatGPT were a twinkle in a developer's eye, a philosophy major turned software development project manager turned school teacher had an idea. That idea grew into a company that developed websites and has since evolved into a full-service digital agency that includes research, creative and strategy services.

From those early days of writing code from home offices through Y2K, to the Great Recession and The Coronavirus Pandemic, here are a few milestones from our time in business, our community and our world on the internet over the last 25 years.

1998
SiteCrafting is Founded

It began as an after-school activity. Brian Forth was teaching middle schoolers how to code. A few parents of those students had companies and asked Brian to build websites for them. The rest, as they say, is history. As our story continues to unfold, we are looking back on the past 25 years so we may look ahead to the next. Keep scrolling to see how far we've come.

2000

Y2K comes and goes with minimal disruption. A few months later the dot com bubble bursts.

Brian hires SiteCrafting's first employee, Mike Ash, and opens the company's first office at 711 St. Helens Ave in Tacoma.

SiteCrafting's First Big Win

The digEplayer website launches. SiteCrafting's three employees, Brian Forth, Ken Foubert and Mike Ash, build a website for the first portable in-flight entertainment device bound for Alaska Airlines flights. The team had two weeks to develop a website for passengers to reserve the digEplayer devices — and they did.

SiteCrafting acquires Dynamics in Design. Employee headcount grows to five full-time employees and two contractors.

Facebook drops its The and becomes accessible to the masses.

Twitter wins the "Breakout of the Year" Webby Award

2010

Justin Bieber releases Baby on YouTube. Not only does the video break YouTube records, Bieber becomes the first performing artist to be discovered on the platform.

Helping Transform Care for People in the South Puget Sound

SiteCrafting develops and launches Urgent Care Wait Times for MultiCare. The feature is revolutionary for patients and providers because it helped manage patient volumes and created timesaving efficiencies.

Mobile Wine Tour App and Website launches. SiteCrafting developed the fully native applications for iOS and Android devices to help people discover and plan their visits to wineries in every state.

SiteCrafting Begins Work for Movie Studios

The team develops DASH, a cutting-edge asset management tool for Deluxe. To this day, Deluxe provides asset and archive management for entertainment studios in Hollywood. Warner Brothers and the Ellen show have been among the top users.

PEMCO We're a Lot Like You campaign website launches. SiteCrafting's developers built an interactive website to display Northwest Profiles. Fearless Firewood Stackers, Relentless Recyclers and Socks with Sandals Guys everywhere feel seen.

SiteCrafting opens an office in Seattle. This location adds to SiteCrafting's footprint in the Pacific Northwest with Spokane and Tacoma offices.

Revlon becomes a client and sends a team from Florida to Tacoma. The entire SiteCrating office enjoys manicures and nail polish tutorials.

Sounders S2 rebrands as Tacoma Defiance and SiteCrafting sponsors the team and develops its newly branded website.

2020

With little known about what Covid-19 might bring to our community, on March 9, 2020 SiteCrafting sends the team to work remote, as a trial run. The office remains empty for almost two years as our team, community and world navigate the impact of the pandemic.

Pivoting with the Pandemic

The Association of Washington Business Institute Rebound & Recovery website launches. The website combined real-time data and interactive dashboards to showcase the transformation of Washington's economic progress over time and helps business owners connect with PPE. In the first 3 months the website received more than 4,000 requests for PPE from 700 unique users.
