Accomplishing More Together
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African proverb
Teamwork is one of SiteCrafting’s values that proves time and time again to be the MVP of project success. During my time as a project manager at SiteCrafting — 5 years and counting — I have watched teamwork bring people together, build empathy and make the work better. I love this value so much that I decided to write about it.
At SiteCrafting we define teamwork as follows:
We support each other both professionally and personally. “That’s not my job” is not part of our vocabulary. We take ownership of issues and collaborate with others because we know that we can accomplish more together. We care about each other and value strong, positive relationships.
From dancer to dance mom
I am a former dancer and a current dance/sports mom. This value feels intrinsic to who I am and how I show up for others. Teams coming together to support each other, working through solutions, motivating and counseling each other — this is all part of my DNA. In the dance studio and on the basketball court, teamwork creates a collaborative environment that results in shared success. In the office, it does the same.
One of the ways teamwork manifests in the work we do at SiteCrafting is in the way we prioritize getting to know each other outside of the context of projects. We celebrate project launches with outings at the golf course or race track. We meet for happy hour at 7 Seas and attend painting sessions with Daniel. We make time to chat at the new office coffee bar (we have cold brew on tap if you haven’t heard) and bring our dogs and kids to the office. It’s apparent that we value each other and the relationships we’ve built.
Making the dream work
Overall, these connections help us remember we are all human. It also means we can approach challenges with empathy and work through things together. When the going gets tough, we have established relationships with intention and can come together quickly to work on the task at hand.
On the client side of things, I love watching teamwork at play between our staff and yours. The different perspectives and approaches that come with blending people from different organizations create an environment that positively pushes us all to think in new ways and try new things.
Accomplishing more together is what it’s all about. As I’m writing this I’m also coordinating dance drop-off logistics with the parents in our carpool network. It’s teamwork at its finest — if you know, you know.
