I am sliding through this holiday season under the influence of my latest read, Rest is Resistance. As a result, everyone in my gifting sphere is getting the gift of sleep:
- I have a case of Numi Sweet Slumber tea on hand to add to gifts for friends, neighbors and coworkers.
- I am gifting a wedge sleeping pillow (aka the MVP of my life) to a few of my friends who work hard and deserve to rest harder.
- I’m also giving the previously mentioned book to anyone who makes eye contact with me because I believe, as author Tricia Hersey writes, “Exhaustion will not save us. Rest will.”
I wanted to know if the SiteCrafting team had go-to gifts for gift-giving occasions so I dropped a question in one of our Slack channels and this is what I learned.
Lynn Pham, User Experience Researcher, gifter of personalized drinking vessels.
Lynn says she loves purchasing novelty mugs that reflect the recipient’s fandom. She also includes something that goes in the mug.
“If I know they love The Office, I’ll get an Office mug and include some of my favorite teas. The teas I typically gift are Mighty Leaf’s Tropical Green Tea and Citrus Chamomile. It’s affordable, my absolute go-to, and who doesn’t love a new mug?”
Ryan Hendrickson, Web Developer, gifter of scented flames.
Ryan says his go-to gifts are candles.
“Everyone deserves to have stuff that smells good, and bonus points if I can find a candle with their favorite scents.”
Angie Carson, Manager of Digital Strategy, gifter of fancy office supplies and moisturized lips.
Angie says her favorite gifts to give are a pretty notebook and a pen, or Balm DotCom from Glossier.
“I can’t live without Balm DotCom from Glossier and I need everyone to know about it. My tip is to buy the trio pack so you can gift all three.”
Tiffany Guarnes, Marketing and Content Coordinator, gifter of life-affirming pages.
Tiffanys says she gives candles and books any chance she can. She keeps a stash on hand for the right person and the right moment.
“If I notice a friend going through a transitional time in their life, I like to give them The Alchemist. Anytime I see it in a thrift store I buy it. I currently have three copies on my shelf and I think I’ve given seven copies away.”
Crissy Pagulayan, Project Manager, gifter of things that bring enrichment.
Crissy says she has a few go-to gifts this year.
“I’m really into finding beautiful puzzles as gifts that people can turn into wall art. Also, I enjoy a really nice brand of olive oil for those that like to cook. And for the kids, I love finding books.”
Glen Weiman, Design Director, gifter with specificity.
Glen says he has learned to never deviate from the list of links his wife sends him.
“Every gift I’ve gotten her that is not a link she’s sent me she has not liked and returned.”
